As we know that the biggest search engine Google has the ability to translate any language. Through this technology we can communicate almost any language in the world, even if we are totally unaware about that language. Two people with zero words in common can perfectly understand conversation with each other. That’s awesome.
But there are those people in the world who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, people who speaks sign languages. No translation program in the whole world can interpret for them. Which makes it difficult to communicate.
A group of researchers from the university of California San Diego built an electronic glove that can detect signs used in American Sign Language and translate those signs in to English language.
These gloves contain stretchable sensors on the back of the fingers to track alignments, and an accelerometer to track hand position. These sensors work together and can tell the shape and position of the hand accurately to differentiate between all 26 characters ASL (American Sign language) alphabet.
The researchers have done great job. Through this glove on each hand and some update software this technology should easily able translate any ASL sign. Another amazing thing about this glove design is really cheap to make.
With the help of this glove the ASL speakers could soon have an easy way to communicate with those who is unaware about the sign language.
The researcher has strong believed about their glove that it can be used in virtual reality applications. Users can easily control objects in virtual reality with glove that track their hand motion.
